What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is the study of how mountains or tall buildings and the flow of water or roads affect the various aspects of our lives. It is an art and study of tapping into positive energies or Qi from our environment to enhance our lives. Where Qi is lacking, we can stimulate the positive energies through the proper placement of furniture or suitable objects, like water features or mountain of crystals etc.
The words Feng Shui literally means wind and water. This term was derived from the ancient text, Book of Burial (葬书) by Guo Pu ( 郭璞 ). It is written in the book that “Qi is carried by wind and also dispersed by wind. However, Qi can be gathered by water”. ( 气，乘风则散，界水则止 ). This explains why water features or aquariums are one of the favourite tools recommended by feng shui masters.

Good feng shui is achieved simply by the accumulation and gathering of Qi. ( 藏风聚气 ). One needs to consider the type of Qi to accumulate when doing feng shui for one's home or office. Having a water feature is not always essential to stimulate or gather good Qi. Using the right elements can achieve similar results.

Feng Shui incorporates the theory of the 5 elements ( 五行 ) and Yin/Yang ( 阴阳 ), which is at the core of Yi Jing ( 易经 ) . The 5 elements are Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire. For example, if metal energy is required for you to benefit in terms of feng shui, then the placement of metal objects like coins or metal wind chime will simulate the metal energy needed.


What can Feng Shui do?

In the ancient times, feng shui was primarily used by Chinese for the burial of their ancestors, building of houses and large scale settlements to achieve lasting prosperity. The Chinese view of prosperity does not relate to wealth only. The meaning encompasses health, longevity and filial children as well.

Feng shui can be applied to produce results in academic achievements, career advancements, and improvements in relationships and in health. However, feng shui is not a wonder cure that can solve all your problems and make you into a millionaire overnight.

But exactly how much can a person benefit from feng shui? The answer lie in one's Ba Zi ( 八字 ) or 8 Characters, which is widely used to complement a feng shui audit. It literally means the “eight characters” and is also known as the Four Pillars ( 四柱 ).


What is Ba Zi (4 Pillars) Destiny Analysis?

The Chinese system of destiny analysis, known as Ba Zi ( 八字 ) or Four Pillars ( 四柱 ) is also a Chinese method of recording one's birth details using the concept of the five elements ( Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire ) and Yin/Yang ( 阴阳 ). It determines a person's luck cycle, favourable and unfavourable elements, interests and talents, and even helps in finding a suitable marriage partner.

Knowing when you are going through a good luck cycle or bad luck cycle can empower you to enhance your life by maximizing your potential and avoiding setbacks. You will know how and when to use the changing luck cycle to your advantage.

Can we change our lives or destinies?

In a nutshell, we cannot change our destiny completely, but we can use feng shui to the best advantage. If we can foresee that the road ahead is rough, we can sit tight and take extra precautions.


What is Yi Jing ( 易经 ) ?

Yi Jing, is used primarily for divinatory purposes by the Emperors and court officials. There is on record 3 books of Yi Jing. Lian Shan Yi ( 连山易 ), Gui Zang Yi ( 归藏易 ) and Zhou Yi (周易). Of the 3 books of Yi Jing, only Zhou Yi survives till today and is what we refer to as Yi Jing.

It is an ancient text which contains 2 parts. The first is known as the text ( 经部 ) containing 64
hexagram and its interpretation, which was a re-arrangement of the older text by King Zhou( 周文王 ) . The second part is known as the commentaries ( 传部 ), which are attributed to Confucius and his disciples.

Yi Jing has had a strong influence on China 's culture and philosophy for thousands of years and its effects can still be seen today. It is said that the commoners applied Yi Jing principles in their daily lives without knowing.

There are many ways of performing the divinations and different versions were developed for the commoners in the form of divination sticks, which are found commonly in temples till today. Other methods of divination include the tossing of 3 coins, known as Wen Wang Gua ( 文王卦 ) or 6 Yao /Lines Gua ( 六爻卦 ), Plum Flower Oracles etc.

Yi Jing divination is a reliable and accurate tool for the forecasting of any event, such as business prospect, career advancement, marriage etc.
