Does this recipe sound boring? Don’t be fooled! Simple but divine – that’s how to sum up the wonder that is the baked apple. This recipe from The Kitchn takes things over the top with an oatmeal/brown sugar stuffing.
Ingredients
4medium Applestry Honeycrisp
1/4cup Brown Sugar
1/4cup Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats
1/2tsp Cinnamon
1/4tsp Nutmeg
1pinch Ground Cloves
1tbsp Buttercut into fours
1cup Hot Water
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees and place rack in the lower-middle spot.
Core apples, leaving about half an inch at the bottom and creating a well about ¾” wide.
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Divide evenly among the four apples, packing firmly.
Arrange stuffed apples in a baking dish, topping each with a pat of butter.
Add 1 cup hot water to the dish, cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
Remove foil and continue baking 20 to 30 minutes, until apples are soft when poked with a knife and brown sugar has become syrupy.
Serve with ice cream, whipped cream or crème fraîche.
